While Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) maintains a firm stance on the effectiveness of the death penalty in managing drug trafficking in Singapore, the article presents evidence suggesting that the methodologies and interpretations of these studies might not be as substantial as portrayed.

30-year-old Chinese inmate bids farewell to daughter, wife and mother before execution

A Chinese prisoner being led to his execution breaks down and cries as his toddler daughter says 'Bye bye Dad', not knowing he is about to die. The footage was taken before the 30-year-old was about to receive a lethal injection. He was given the capital punishment after causing the deaths of three people.

This is the heart-rending moment a Chinese prisoner who had been given a death sentence bid a final farewell to his young daughter.

The little girl was apparently too young to understand the significance of the meeting.

She happily waved to her crying father and said 'bye bye dad' - without realising what the separation would mean to the rest of her life.

The prisoner's wife and mother were also present and had broken down in tears.

The man knelt down and kowtowed thrice to his elderly mother to show his respect. The devastated mother hugged his son and cried hard.

Afterwards, the man was escorted by the policemen to be executed.

The incident recently took place in a prison in Daqing, north-east China's Heilongjiang Province, according to China.com.

Footage of the farewell scene began circulating on various Chinese websites, such as Sina.com, on December 15.

The prisoner has been named 30-year-old Li Shiyuan, who was a driver before being jailed.

The video shows Li's family members visiting him on the day of his execution.

When Li saw his wife and mother inside the prison, he kept saying: 'Let me hold my daughter.'

The man was then given the chance to hug his young child near the police car.

Eastday.com reported that Li caused the deaths of three people in May, 2015.

The report said Li had an argument with one of the three people at a karaoke parlour. Li then drove a car and chased the trio to seek revenge.

The speedy car chase is said to have caused the trio's car to crash into a ditch. Their car burst into flames leaving the three to be burnt to death. Two other people in the wrecked car were reported injured.

Reports said Li was detained by the police the next day and given the death penalty by the court.

However, the Chinese media did not reveal what crime Li had been convicted of.

Li was taken to the Daqing Funeral House and given a lethal injection after meeting his daughter, his mother and his wife, Chinese reports said.
